1. Description
Gymnema Sylvestre is a climbing, woody plant of tropical and subtropical regions common in an area extending from northern to western India. In this country it also bears the name "gurmar", literally "which destroys sugar". This name refers to a property of Gymnema leaves, more precisely to gymnemic acids, a complex mixture of triterpene glycosides: when the leaves are chewed, they inhibit the taste bud’s sensitive to the sweet taste for 1 to 2 hours.
Gymnema has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 2,500 years. In Australia, Japan and Vietnam it is also traditionally used, alone or together with other plants and supplements, to lower blood sugar levels in diabetics. Today this plant is grown almost everywhere in the tropics. Fenioux Laboratories use the leaves of Gymnema sylvestris.
Sugar in quantity is a factor in several conditions; overweight, obesity, blood sugar disorders... Sugar is often insidiously present in our diet. In addition, we are often attracted to sweet foods and develop a form of sugar addiction. To help us reduce our consumption, Gymnema Sylvestris has the surprising property of eliminating the sensation of sweet taste. After chewing the contents of the capsule, we cannot perceive the sweet taste, whether it is a spoonful of honey or a pastry.
Its importance is twofold:
The suppression of the sensation of sweet taste has a moderating effect on appetite. It helps to resist sweet cravings and is therefore a natural ally in losing weight.
Regulation of blood sugar levels.
Chromium is an essential trace element for regulating blood sugar levels. It intervenes by strengthening the action of insulin.
Based on current data, we can say that chromium picolinate is the most effective form for diabetes.
Today we know that chromium is an essential cofactor for the action of insulin. Several mechanisms of action explain this:
• An interaction between chromium and the insulin receptor enhances the latter's binding to its receptor;
• A modulation of chromodulin, an oligopeptide involved in enhancing the cellular response to insulin. Additionally, people who consume chromium picolinate find it easier to control their appetite.
By maintaining normal blood glucose levels, cravings become increasingly rare.
This action is possible thanks to better management of insulin in the body. Taking chromium is therefore useful for suppressing cravings for sweets and losing weight.
